Buying the wife a new gun

It’s time to buy the wife a new gun. You would think that I would be above the “look honey, I bought you a new gun” stage where the new gun in question really has nothing to do with my wife. Sadly though…

I went to the gun store with the intent to get her something that fits her needs, fits her hand, shooting style, and level of recoil control. What I did however was get sucked into that cool 1911 style pistol that I was sure would be great for “her” as I could easily train her up into using it…

Well folks, I have learned my lesson. (again). Buying for her is buying for her and not for whatever catches my eye. I think we all get drawn into that a little bit sometimes where we become biased by what we want in that shiny display case, or thinking that “They need a real caliber”. Learn by my mistakes and when you are shopping for a new gun for the wife, the kids, whatever, keep focused on what is good for them.

I will post a discussion soon about how to pick out a gun for yourself or someone else. There are a few things that will make a big difference to help make your next purchase the right one.

So it’s off to the gun store to get her a new gun (again) and this time I will not be distracted. I wonder if she would like a red dot…

Tools

We have a lot of tools that are available to us for self defense. Among others, we have chemical weapons, impact weapons, hands and feet, and we have firearms. In the face of a deadly force encounter, I feel that firearms are still the most effective means of stopping that deadly assault. It is the easiest tool that equalizes the weakest and most vulnerable among us. With that power comes responsibility. We should train with our tools and become proficient and safe. We should store them in a safe manner, and we should stand up for our rights to carry them responsibly.

Classes

I am working on classes for the year. There are several things in the works and we will keep you updated as they get sorted out.

Just a sample
I have had so much response from the Women’s Self Defense Awareness class, that we had at Tyler’s Fit Factory, that we have decided to make it a monthly class. We will be breaking it up into two intro classes a year, and monthly hands on classes. Stay tuned for updates on when this starts.

We will be scheduling the first half of the firearms classes soon. When the range dries up and we able to host classes, we will get started.

We are in the works with two classes. Home Security, and Self Defense and the Law. Both to be held this year.

Active Shooter Response for Businesses and Violence in the workplace are going to be expanded as well.

Keep checking in and I will update you as I go.

Welcome

There may be a day where you will have to fight to protect your life. If you want to prepare for that possibility of having to protect yourself and those that you love, you will have to make some basic choices.

How much time do you want to put into training? How far are you willing to go. What tools are you willing to purchase/carry/train with, and what level of proficiency are you willing to maintain?

When it comes to a potential assault, there are so many possible scenarios that we could spend our entire life preparing for every possibility. On the other side, many of us simply rely on the odds that it will not happen to us and ignore the issue completely.

I believe we should fall somewhere in between. My group of professional instructors provide a variety of training classes from the very basic, to advanced defensive tactics. You must make a choice. You need to choose what you are willing to invest in your safety and what you are willing to risk.

My passion is to provide the tools that we need to protect ourselves and others. Check us out, get involved, let us know what you think, and come along for the discussion.
